The Benach tomato is a variety cultivated on some farms in the Tarragona region, appreciated above all for its attractive appearance and intense flavor.
With the scientific name Lycopersicon esculentum mill, this tomato comes from very vigorous tomato plants, with large leaves. The fruits, of medium-large size once ripe, are of a very intense red color, without spots or grooves, with an irregular scar and several concentric protuberances on the part of the peduncle. Its meat is firm and consistent and its interior has little pulp, which makes it very suitable for eating raw, in salads or other cold preparations.
Tomatoes are rich in vitamins A, C and K and minerals such as potassium and iron. They also provide fibre, water and antioxidants and benefit cardiovascular health by reducing cholesterol and blood pressure. They strengthen the immune system, eyesight, skin and digestion, as well as having a diuretic and antioxidant effect that combats cellular ageing.
